When the hotel manager heart of us that we are coming for honeymoon He upgrad the room for the same rate. It's very nice hotel
Everyhting was perfect. I selected the hotel for my birthday while on holiday in Sri Lanka. The hotel provides excellent buffet food, western and Sri Lankan cuisines. The service is excellent - and the staff is friendly and helpful. We paid for a half day visit of Colombo organised by the Travel Desk of the hotel. The driver was really good and an excellent guide. The room had a sea view and an excellent bed. We had a few electrical problems in the room but it was sorted out at the end by a team of electrician who were not only friendly but very professional. The hotel is away from the city of Colombo so it is quiet and in a very nice location. There is an atmosphere in the old building - a step back in the past. I really enjoyed my stay there. The hotel driver who drove us to the airport did not speak English and had very poor driving abilities. It took us one hour and a half instead of the one hour as the Travel desk lady mentioned.
There lepers in the room, and staff says this is normal it doesn't matter !!
Everything was very nice.
The music noise late into the night.
Location, great ocean view.
Small insects in my bed. This place is in need of refurbishing, as it is run down. Many staff milling about, but few are eager to serve.
One of the word's classic colonial luxury hotels with a long history.. Prices are very reasonable for such high standards. The chef is internationally acclaimed. Good atmosphere.
There was a lot of on-the-job training with staff trainees who undertandably could not answer straightforward questions. Few experienced staff were present at the check-in desk. The hotel, being to the south of Colombo, makes for a long journey to the airport north of the city.
old colonial style hotel first stayed there 34 years ago and the high standard of service is still tops.
Could do with a slight tart up.
The staff at the Mount Lavinia were excellent. Both friendly and professional and if you had any issues they were addressed immediately. I have stayed in 100's of hotels for both business and pleasure all over the world and the staff are of the highest calibre.
To be fair it's looking a little tired and thats also reflected in the quality of linen and bedding. However that said everything worked. Breakfast is a little chaotic although the choice was extensive.
The hotel was well above standard it was set of a cliff top but no hills easy to walk in and out, it was well maintained through out, everyone was polite, food was very good and a good range to pick from,
there was nothing i did not like
Once I had occupied the room that I had booked (see below) everything was fine. Very pleasant hotel, wonderful views although the frequency and noise of trains was disturbing, and the personal touch from all of the staff was excellent.
I booked a room with a direct ocean view through Booked.net and also added a note that I wished to know about airport pickup as my arrival time was midnight. After 3 days I had received nothing but on calling the hotel 2 hours before my flight I was told to email my request direct and I had a response almost immediately confirming the pickup. On arrival at the airport, all was good and my transfer went well. However, on gaining access to my room (511) at 1.30 in the morning I noticed that it was not ocean facing but, as I later found out, facing the railway. I called reception and was told that the hotel was full and that was all that was available, however they would change my room in the morning. Tried to sleep but the air conditioning was freezing and I could find no way to adjust it, so another call to reception and 30 minutes later a member of staff arrived, moved the bed and indicated the controls behind the headboard, how ridiculous! By now the time is around 3.00am! And then at 7am or thereabouts, the trains started. Bearing in mind that I had been travelling (changing time zone from Malaysia) and then subjected to disturbances when I have meetings to attend to in the morning you can understand that I was getting angry. I took an early breakfast (couldn't sleep) and after I complained further, I was eventually moved to the ground floor (room 008). My point is the lack of concern or consideration for a person arriving in the middle of the night, tired and his room booked and confirmed but not available probably due to another guest complaining and considered on a first come first served basis (my room card for 511 had another name Ms Khan crossed out and replaced with mine), and placed in a room knowing full well that the chance of reclaiming any sleep was zero. I chose this hotel because it afforded me time to relax on arrival with the website painting a glorious picture of my surroundings, what I actually got was nothing like that at all!
Our favourite hotel in Sri Lanka. The attention to detail in this hotel and the customer service is first class. We spent 4 nights of our honeymoon here. The beach and pool are fantastic very relaxing. The Govenors restaurant and Seafood restaurant are both excellent! We visited the CoCo Spa twice and each time it was fantastic!
Excellent hotel with a great view of the Ocean from the room and can hear the waves lashing on the rocks. Good service and delicious food
Restaurant dress code of formal....!!! no slippers/shorts etc....this is a beach hotel....
Excellent location, a bit far out from the city but amazing place.
They have to work a bit on their customer service. I had to call twice for anything i requested from room service.
Hotel staff was very friendly and attentive. Territory and room were clean. Restaurants provides variety of delicious food.
My first impression was negative because the hotel building is very old and definitely require renovation but it was compensated by the friendly attitude of hotel staff.
I loved everything!!! They let me check in extremely early (about 6am instead of the usual (?) 11am). The location is perfect - right on the beach. The Hotel is extremely well run with plenty of staff but they are not annoying or overbearing. The food was delicious, the rooms were great, the taxi drivers were pleasant and very helpful, cleanliness of the entire Hotel was perfect, the number of restuarants and variety of food was great, pool is good and I'm sure there is more I cant think of now to compliment.
There is not one minor issue I could mention. Everything was perfect
